Pre-Covid Comfort Zone— Our Transformation Story
I hope you all are well and safe during these difficult times.
As of today, the world is getting used to living with the “new normal” and Sri Lanka where we are based in, facing the 2nd wave of the Covid-19. Things are not looking good and look like we will be stuck inside for a while.
I’m not here to write about the covid or how to live with it.
This is about how we transformed ourselves to bring our best and change the way we looking at our business.
At the start of the year, we celebrated one of the biggest achievements during our tenure. We moved to a new office and we made sure to fill it with indoor plants. Things were looking good and we had a set of projects in the pipeline. They were predominantly (if not all) front-end development work as it was our core service at that time and we have been doing a good job according to our clientele.
Back then when someone asks do you guys do front-end development? We are like, hell yeah! Because of the creative skills our team had, clients were happy to pump these types of projects as we put that extra yard.
Saying that any project that is beyond that, we were a bit hesitant to get as we were vulnerable to leave our comfort zone. Well, sounds stupid and I know it. Keep reading, you will get to know
Stop the rat race!
When our country hit with the 1st wave of Covid-19, we had to take a decision to work from home so do the majority of the world. Luckily we had the infrastructure to back that mainly because of the industry we are in.
Fast track for 3 weeks, we all got settled, made subtle adjustments to the processes we have been following, and we are doing the operation very much close to the way we did when we were at the office.
The biggest outcome was with this forced change that I have been able to find free time. Time to look back and forth, define yourselve, identify the mistakes you have been doing, etc.
Ta-da moment
It got me thinking that we have to make changes asap. Basically now. The first we had to do was jump out of our comfort zone. Soon as I came out, saw the possibilities and the skillset we have. Basically, we are rarely touching 5% of our capacity at the moment. Then did a quick brainstorm of how capable we are. We have the creative skills that we are not using, we have a very strong technical knowledge that barely using, we have a friendly relationship with our clients which means we are good in support, even though we did not do any Social Media or Search Engine Optimization as a business modal, we have the calibre to do it.
Then what I saw was we have the capacity to design websites, mobile apps, web apps and even do branding. Develop interactive websites, mobile and web apps. Once they go live, provide bulletproof support while drawing traffic to the solutions through Social Media and Search Engines.
Soon as we made that change, we said yes to a couple of enquiries came along. Which we have not even think about before. That's a win for me anyway at that point. We are doing more tweaks here and there to smooth the process and the hiccups as we are facing. We are not done with this transformation yet!
We are just warming up. We just got started. Best of us is yet to come!
